Preparing for the future: the need for a long-term ICT vision

Leighland was navigating a fast-moving digital environment. Staff and students were quickly embracing GenAI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot, but the speed of adoption was outpacing the school’s ability to evolve its policy frameworks. With data flowing across platforms and enterprise-grade Microsoft security tools not yet fully activated, the school saw an opportunity to strengthen its digital foundations. The ICT team – passionate about protecting the school and open to learning – was looking for support to extend its cyber processes, guide responsible AI use and build confidence across the school community.

Collaborative review delivering insights for sustainable progress

RTG partnered closely with Leighland’s leadership and ICT team to co-design a roadmap for digital resilience. The engagement began with a cyber incident preparedness workshop for the leadership team, validating and refreshing the school’s incident response plans. From there, the focus shifted to AI and data governance, starting with staff surveys to understand how AI tools were being used across the school.

RTG’s GenAI Compass (linked to Landing Page) provided deep visibility into AI usage and risk, offering actionable insights and tailored frameworks for safe and responsible adoption. Building on these findings, RTG and the ICT Manager developed AI advisory and staff adoption plans, while benchmarking the school’s use of Microsoft Defender and Purview to strengthen data governance and security practices.

Looking ahead, RTG will continue to provide advisory and reporting, along with a review of Microsoft Teams architecture, ensuring governance evolves in step with technology.

Empowering leadership with data-driven roadmaps and greater impact

Leighland is seeing strong momentum across both technical and people outcomes. With 70% of staff already engaging with GenAI tools, there was clear enthusiasm for structured support. New policies brought clarity and confidence, helping staff feel secure and supported in their AI adoption. The ICT team is gaining focus and working with greater ease, while leadership is benefiting from consistent updates and trusted advice. What was once a complex and fast-moving space is now guided by clear governance, empowered staff and a proactive mindset.

Trusted guidance for lasting value and resilience

RTG is helping Leighland build a culture of digital responsibility. By focusing on enablement and clarity, RTG supports the school in developing practical policies, improving visibility into AI usage and creating space for open conversations around safety and innovation. Their collaborative style and sector experience made it easy for Leighland to build trust and move forward with confidence.
