Systems Engineer

The Technical Services Systems Engineer ensures the stability, security, and performance of RTG clients' core infrastructure.

Your Day-to-Day Adventure:

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd-level ticket triage, monitoring, troubleshooting, and escalation resolution (onsite or remote) within agreed timeframes and service levels.
  • Manage client and internal communications during critical priority 1 incidents ensuring service level agreements and internal processes are followed at all times.
  • Investigate outages, both planned and unplanned, and prepare detailed post-incident reports for clients.
  • Install, configure, and maintain software, hardware, and networks to ensure the highest levels of infrastructure availability.
  • Perform routine operational meetings with client-based ICT managers to review all open incidents and changes are meeting expectations and agreements.
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls, and maintain system integrity during upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify root causes of incidents and support disaster recovery implementation.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing maintenance of clients' IT environments, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable, and responsive.
  • Assist with project tasks, working closely with Project Engineers to deliver on project scope, which may account for 10-20% of the role.

What's in Your Toolkit?

You are a proactive self-starter with significant experience as a Systems Engineer in customer-focused environments. You possess:
  • Proven experience as a Windows Systems Administrator in a client-focused, multi-server environment including expertise with Office 365, Google GSuite, Microsoft Azure, and Active Directory.
  • Advanced network skills, particularly in multi-server, virtualised Windows and Linux environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Solid understanding of network technologies, including switching, routing, VLAN, WLAN, WAN, and VPN. Exposure to enterprise grade technologies including FortiGate, Meraki, HPE Aruba & Dell.
  • Experience in remote management and monitoring of network and infrastructure using RMM tools (Datto RMM desirable).
  • Excellent understanding of backup systems including Azure backups, Veeam Backup & Recovery and Datto BCDR.
  • Ticket management and time entry practices using ITIL framework (Autotask desirable)
  • Excellent documentation skills (IT Glue desirable)
  • An enthusiastic team player, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high-level analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong customer focus, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others and liaise with senior stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for technology and a willingness to continually learn and adapt across a range of technologies
